In August of 2022, Kaiwhakarato Hana was approached by a member of the St Andrews Church Parish Council to discuss the idea of a community garden being creating on a patch of land owned by the church. Hana reached out to the community to see if there was any interest (there was!).
Fab Feathy contacted other already established community gardens in the Wairarapa very early on. This was a great opportunity to learn about what works and what can go wrong in community gardens before getting stuck in.
The group met regularly, and first turned the soil in March 2023 with some daffodil planting. There were working bees in the space, marketed by Fab Feathy and supported by lots of community members and groups.
Fab Feathy was able to provide practical advice, administration and marketing support, and $4,000 worth of funding to help get this project established.
